Overview of the Punic Wars Lesson

Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will learn about the three Punic Wars fought between Rome and Carthage from 264 to 146 BC, examining how Rome transformed from an Italian city-state into the dominant power of the western Mediterranean. Learners will investigate how Rome adapted its military tactics to overcome Carthaginian naval superiority, and how the eventual destruction of Carthage paved the way for Roman imperial expansion. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, source analysis, research, and watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
