In this lesson, students will examine how the ancient Greek city-state of Sparta built a society entirely centred on military power, from the conquest and enslavement of neighbouring populations to the brutal training regime imposed on its citizens from birth. Students will also explore Sparta's political structure, the rights given to women, and the military campaigns that brought Sparta both dominance and eventual decline. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, source analysis, research and watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
