In this lesson, students will examine the major weapons and technologies introduced during World War One and explore how these developments led to high casualty rates on the Western Front. They will investigate the role of weapons such as machine guns and artillery, as well as poison gas, in transforming the nature of warfare and making it far more deadly than conflicts of earlier periods. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
