In this lesson, students will explore the brief and tragic reign of Lady Jane Grey, examining how the religious tensions between Protestantism and Catholicism in Tudor England drove Edward VI to bypass his half-sisters and install a reluctant Protestant queen. They will analyse the motivations of figures like the Duke of Northumberland and the Grey family, evaluating the extent to which Jane was manipulated by those around her and how Mary's successful counter-claim to the throne ultimately sealed Jane's fate. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, source analysis, and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
