In this lesson, students will explore the major political, economic, military and territorial factors that contributed to the fall of the Western Roman Empire in AD 476. They will examine the roles of key emperors such as Diocletian and Constantine I, investigate how economic decline and Germanic invasions weakened Roman defences, and assess whether any single cause was more important than the others. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, source analysis, research, and watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
