Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will gain a chronological understanding of the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate and the role Matthew Perry played in its collapse. They will develop an awareness of why it is considered a significant development, or turning point, which contributed to continuity and change in the Japanese society. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
