In this lesson, students will examine the life and reign of Elizabeth I, tracing the circumstances of her difficult early years through to the political and religious decisions that defined her time on the throne. They will explore major events including the establishment of Anglicanism, the defeat of the Spanish Armada, and the cultural achievements of the Elizabethan Era, developing an understanding of how Elizabeth managed a kingdom that had been deeply unsettled by decades of religious conflict and uncertain leadership. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
