Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will examine how Christopher Columbus' belief in a shorter western route to Asia led to one of the most consequential voyages in world history. They will explore the financial, geographical, and political factors that shaped his journey, and consider the devastating impact that European colonisation had on the Taino people of the Caribbean. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, source analysis, and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
