In this lesson, students will examine how Ying Zheng unified China after centuries of warfare during the Warring States period, exploring the methods he used to enforce control across his empire, from standardising writing and currency to confiscating weapons and executing dissenting scholars. They will also investigate the construction of the Great Wall, the emperor's obsession with immortality, and the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the Qin Dynasty after his death. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, research, and watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
