Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will explore ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, examining how this writing system used pictorial symbols to represent sounds and meanings in multiple directions. They will also investigate how the Rosetta Stone unlocked the ability to decode this ancient script after more than 1500 years of mystery. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, source analysis, and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
