Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will learn how archaeologists determine the age of artefacts by using relative dating methods such as stratigraphy and typology to place objects in order from older to younger. Students also learn how absolute dating methods such as radiocarbon dating, dendrochronology, and thermoluminescence provide specific age estimates by measuring physical or chemical features within artefacts. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, source analysis, research, and video watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
