In this lesson, students will explore the life and teachings of Confucius, examining how his ideas about moral behaviour, respect for family, and proper conduct spread across China and eventually throughout East Asia. They will investigate the ways in which different Chinese dynasties either persecuted or promoted Confucianism, and analyse how rival philosophies such as Legalism, Daoism, Mohism, and Buddhism challenged Confucian thought across several centuries. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
