Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will examine the events and policies that led to Kevin Rudd's formal apology to the Stolen Generations in 2008, tracing the history of child removal from the late 1800s through to the impact of the Bringing Them Home report and the first Sorry Day. They will also explore the significance of the apology itself, the responses it generated, and the ongoing efforts to achieve reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, research, and watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
