Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will examine the rapid collapse of Allied defences in France in 1940 and explore the extraordinary circumstances that led to the Dunkirk evacuation. They will investigate how German Blitzkrieg tactics outmanoeuvred the Allied forces and consider the significance of Operation Dynamo as the largest amphibious evacuation in wartime history. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, source analysis, research, and video watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
