Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will learn about the historical evolution of the samurai, from their origins as service providers to the Japanese emperor to becoming the military backbone of feudal Japan under the daimyo. The lesson will also cover the samurai's strict adherence to the bushido code, their training and daily life, and the eventual dissolution of their class during the Meiji Restoration. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, source analysis, research, and watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
