In this lesson, students will learn about the pivotal shifts in Japan's political and social structure from the establishment of its first permanent capital in Nara to the rise of the Kamakura shogunate, highlighting the influence of the Fujiwara clan, the introduction of Buddhism, and the emergence of the samurai class. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, research, and watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities.
