US Freedom Rides Lesson
Learning objectives
In this lesson, students will delve into the pivotal events of the 1961 Freedom Rides, exploring how a diverse group of civil rights activists courageously challenged segregation laws in the American South. They will also examine the broader impact of the Freedom Rides on the Civil Rights Movement, including how these acts of civil disobedience led to federal enforcement of desegregation laws and inspired future generations to fight for equality. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities.
