Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will examine how the Industrial Revolution transformed transport in Britain, from the slow and unreliable methods of the pre-industrial period to the construction of canals, improved roads, and railways. They will explore how these changes made it possible to move goods and people across the country more quickly and efficiently, and consider why this was so important to the growth of British industry. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading or research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
