Abolition of Slavery Lesson

In this lesson, students will examine the history of slavery from the ancient world through to the abolition movements of the 18th and 19th centuries, with particular attention to the transatlantic slave trade and the conditions endured by enslaved Africans during the Middle Passage. They will also explore the political campaigns and key figures in both the British and American abolitionist movements, tracing the legislative milestones that led to emancipation and considering the ongoing resistance and inequality that followed the formal end of slavery. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
