Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will examine the causes, events and consequences of the Medieval Crusades, a series of religious wars fought between Christians and Muslims for control of Jerusalem and the Holy Land from 1095 to 1291. They will explore how Pope Urban II's call to arms led to nearly two centuries of conflict that transformed the political, cultural and religious relationships between Europe and the Middle East. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, including reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
