Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will examine how Julius Caesar rose from a junior political official to dictator for life through military conquests in Gaul and a civil war against his former allies. They will also explore how his concentration of power provoked the senatorial conspiracy that killed him, and how his assassination triggered further conflict that transformed Rome from a republic into an empire under his adopted heir, Augustus.Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
