WWII POWs in Europe Lesson

Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will examine the conditions faced by prisoners of war in Europe during World War II, exploring how different nations treated captured soldiers under the framework of the Geneva Convention. They will also investigate the role of international organisations such as the Red Cross, the consequences of violations through post-war trials, and the long-term impact on international humanitarian law. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
