Codebreaking in WWII Lesson

Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will examine the Allied codebreaking operations of World War II and explore how the decryption of German and Japanese codes contributed to major military victories. They will investigate the work of key figures such as Alan Turing and William Friedman, and consider the long-term impact of wartime cryptography on modern computing and intelligence agencies. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
