In this lesson, students will examine how the British Home Front during World War II was transformed by government action and civilian contribution to the demands of total war. They will explore the ways in which ordinary people, from factory workers and women’s organisations to children and volunteers, took part in the war effort through rationing and civil defence. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
