In this lesson, students will examine the reasons behind America's catastrophic failure in the Vietnam War, tracing events from France's colonial occupation of Vietnam through to the fall of Saigon in 1975. They will also explore how the escalation of US military involvement, from financial aid to full-scale ground and aerial warfare, ultimately failed to prevent a communist victory, and consider how the war affected both Vietnamese civilians and American society at home. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, source analysis, research, and video watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
