In this lesson, students will examine the political career of Benito Mussolini, from his early years as a socialist organiser to his eventual declaration as dictator of Italy in 1925. They will explore how post-war disillusionment and the weakness of the Italian government created conditions that allowed Mussolini to seize power, and consider how his alliance with Adolf Hitler drew Italy into World War Two. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, research, and video watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
