In this lesson, students will examine the planning and execution of the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943, exploring how the deception operation known as Mincemeat contributed to the success of Operation Husky. They will also investigate the wider consequences of the campaign, including the fall of Mussolini's fascist government, the Italian armistice, and the Allied advance through Italy towards Rome. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
