In this lesson, students will examine the life, exile, and historical methods of Thucydides, the fifth-century BCE Athenian general who produced the History of the Peloponnesian War. They will explore the ways in which his commitment to eyewitness testimony, factual accuracy, and political analysis set a new standard for historical writing that influenced historians and political thinkers across more than two thousand years. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
