In this lesson, students will examine the reign of Emperor Hadrian (117–138 CE), focusing on his controversial rise to power, his decision to abandon Trajan's eastern conquests in favour of consolidation, and the construction of frontier defences such as the famous wall in northern Britain. Learners will also explore Hadrian's architectural achievements, his promotion of Greek culture, the Bar Kokhba revolt in Judea, and the political tensions that followed him to the end of his life. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
