In this lesson, students will examine the rise of Japanese imperial power from the Meiji Restoration through to the attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941. They will trace the escalating pattern of military expansion in Asia, the international responses to Japanese aggression, and the pressures that pushed Japan toward open conflict with the Allied powers. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
